A/N: Originally an OT ficlet. For the prompt "reasons people have sex", number 128: I wanted to be used or degraded.
Stephen tries not to remember.
They’re locked away inside a vault inside his brain, those memories, the ones with the power to consume him, take him over, turn him into someone else entirely.
Those memories are made of rough brick, uneven pavement, scraped knees, the smell of too much cologne and the feel of dirty fifty dollar bills as they’re pressed into his palm, hard evidence of unspeakable shame. They’re a world away and with him always, simultaneously everything and nothing, so different from how things are now.
Now his world is full of tenderness, love, soft, caring kisses and touches that make his knees weak, whispered, sweet pillow talk and cherishment. Now he has the anchor he needs to keep him grounded, stable, steady; now he has certainty.
He doesn’t need the reminders, he doesn’t want to think about how shameful, how awful, how intoxicating, how incredible it was, being taken, being owned, being bought and paid for. He doesn’t want to think about being a whore.
He thinks as long as he refuses to acknowledge his past, it’ll never catch up to him.
