Grey-Haired Man was his favorite of the coffee drinkers in this building. He always refilled him when he was low, always remembered to clean out the filters when he was done, and never spilled anything on him.
But Grey-Haired Man had a friend: Dark-Haired Man. He did not like Dark-Haired Man, thank you very much. He was messy. He didn't watch what he was doing. And he distracted Grey-Haired Man.
That was how he ended up needing to be repaired. Him, needing a repair! It was just so embarrassing, and it wasn't even his fault. Grey-Haired Man had come into the room and poured himself a cup of coffee, and Dark-Haired Man had come in afterward.
They'd just looked at each other for a minute, and then Dark-Haired Man pressed Grey-Haired Man up against the counter, which caught Grey-Haired Man off guard. The coffee spilled all over, and he felt his circuits go crazy, and neither Grey-Haired Man nor Dark-Haired Man even seemed to notice! Their faces were pressed so close together, arms wrapped around each other, and he'd been confused, because he was pretty sure humans needed to be able to breathe in order to survive.
It wasn't even until Dark-Haired Man had left that Grey-Haired Man turned around, smile fading when he saw him, and then he felt even worse for upsetting Grey-Haired Man. It wasn't fair. Why did Dark-Haired Man make him happy, anyway?
At least Grey-Haired Man had gotten him fixed the next day. He still didn't like Dark-Haired Man, though, and whenever he got coffee from him, he made sure to make it too bitter.
"I don't think your coffee maker likes me," Dark-Haired Man would say indignantly to Grey-Haired Man, and Grey-Haired Man would just laugh.
If a coffee maker could smirk, he would.
